Qualification for the 2022 Winter Olympics: Figure skating

With the results of the 2021 World Figure Skating Championships and the 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy, the following countries have qualified spots for the 2022 Winter Olympics, with a total of 144 individual spots among men, women, pairs, and ice dance. The ten teams for the Team Event will be determined at the end of the 2021-22 Grand Prix Series.

Per ISU communication 2388, the following entries are currently qualified for the Olympics; ROC = Russian Olympic Committee

Men

23 men’s spots qualified from 2021 Worlds + 7 men’s spots qualified from 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy

  • 3 spots: JPN (2+3), USA (1+7 + Nebelhorn), ROC (5+8 + Nebelhorn)

  • 2 spots: CAN (6 + Nebelhorn), FRA (9 + Nebelhorn), KOR (10 + Nebelhorn), ITA (11+12)

  • 1 spot: CHN, GEO, SUI, EST, BLR, LAT, CZE, MEX, UKR, SWE, ISR, AZE, AUS

  • Next in line for spots should any country gives up a spot: TUR, ARM, GBR

Women

24 women’s spots qualified from 2021 Worlds + 6 women’s spots qualified from 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy

  • 3 spots: ROC (1+2), USA (4+9 + Nebelhorn), JPN (6+7)

  • 2 spots: KOR (10+11)

  • 1 spot: BEL (5 + DNQ at Nebelhorn), AUT (8 + DNQ at Nebelhorn), CAN, AZE, EST, SWE, NED, BUL, GER, GEO, CHN, CZE, GBR, FIN, POL, SUI, BLR, UKR, AUS

Pairs

16 pairs’ spots qualified from 2021 Worlds + 3 pairs’ spots qualified from 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy

  • 3 spots: ROC (1+3)

  • 2 spots: CHN (2+5 + DNQ at Nebelhorn), CAN (6+12), USA (7+9), ITA (8+16)

  • 1 spot: JPN*, AUT, GER, HUN, CZE, ESP, GEO, ISR

  • Next in line for spots should any country gives up a spot: CHN, BLR, AUS

    *Japan announced that they will not be using the option to earn a second spot that they got at Worlds

Ice dance

19 ice dance spots qualified from 2021 Worlds + 4 dance spots qualified from 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy

  • 3 spots: ROC (1+5), USA (2+4), CAN (3+8)

  • 1 spot: ITA (6 + DNQ at Nebelhorn), GBR (7 + DNQ at Nebelhorn), ESP, POL, CHN, LTU, FRA, GER, JPN, UKR, FIN, GEO, ARM, CZE

Team event

For a country to be eligible for the Team Event, they must qualify entries in at least three of the four disciplines; after the conclusion of the 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy, exactly ten teams qualified entries in at least three of the four disciplines, so the entries are set without having to calculate season points

  • 1 spot: CAN, CHN, CZE, GEO, GER, ITA, JPN, ROC, UKR, USA
