With the new season just about to start, news comes that Julia Lipnitskaia, one of the breakout stars of the Sochi Olympics four years ago, has retired following a string of injuries over the past few seasons. Honorary President of the Russian Skating Federation Valentin Piseev told R-Sport that Lipnitskaia's decision to retire came in April.
It was a short but superb career for Lipnitskaia, who had a spectacular performance in the Team Event in 2014 and went on to finish fifth in the individual competition. She subsequently went on to win the silver at Worlds a month later. But due to inconsistency and injuries, 2014 would be her only Olympics and Worlds appearance.
