19. Mirai Nagasu USA
2016 Autumn Classic International short program
For her entire career, Mirai Nagasu's most memorable programs have been of the upbeat, crowd-pleasing genre. But what may very well become her signature program is to a piece of music that is slow in tempo with many moments of silence. This short program from Nagasu is masterful in its elegance and mesmerizing in her interpretation.
Her debut of this program at the beginning of the season at Autumn Classic International was stunning, earning her a personal best score. And it would also end up becoming the highest short program score from any American woman all season long.
It was a combination of her connection to this music, the choreography from Jeff Buttle, and her maturity as a skater over the past few seasons that led to this breakthrough program. Even a couple of years ago, she may not have been ready to fully interpret this piece of music. And the good news is that she's once again working with Buttle for the Olympic season for her free skate.
Even more good news? Nagasu has decided to keep this short program for one more year. Smart move.
