Ross Miner USA
2018 US Championships free skate
It was a performance that Ross Miner will treasure for the rest of his life.
We all know that Miner has a soft spot for rock - Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and a third season in a row of Queen free skates. And at the US Championships, he can always figure out how to rev up the crowd.
Though in the last couple of years, he faltered in the free skate and finished off the podium at the US Championships, it was a different story last season. Miner blew the roof off the arena with this free skate and set the standard for the last three men to skate. What followed was one of the most topsy-turvy finishes that the US Championships has ever seen.
With both Adam Rippon and Jason Brown making uncharacteristic mistakes in their free skates, Miner vaulted from sixth to silver on the strength of this program and returned to the Nationals podium for the first time since 2013.
And then yes, confusion ensued.
