Madison Chock/Evan Bates USA
2017 Grand Prix Final free dance
In the season before the Olympics, Madison Chock/Evan Bates had a revelation - they started working with music that truly spoke to them, and it made a world of difference in the seamlessness of their programs.
But last season, when they made an early switch from La La Land to Imagine for their Olympic free dance, there was a healthy skepticism as to just how music like that would translate to their skating. Would it seem overwrought? Would it feel too preachy?
It turned out to be one of the strongest compositions of their career - they flew across the ice with this program, and it greatly highlighted their strengths and their improved musicality. They believed in that program, and it translated to the audience each time. This performance of it at the Grand Prix Final was at its most powerful.
