They have always been known for their precision and cleanness on the ice - it’s what makes them one of the great American ice dance teams of all time. But when Maia Shibutani/Alex Shibutani throw it all out there and find that extra gear, they are downright magical.
Witnessing this short dance live at Skate America was one of the huge highlights of the season for me. There was something about their willingness to let the crowd steer them through this performance that gave them an extra spark that day. It’s that feeling of being right at the edge of losing control that made this short dance their best of the season.
It was fun. It was dynamic. It was brilliant.
