14. Satoko Miyahara JPN
2016 Grand Prix Final free skate
It feels like an eternity ago when we last saw Satoko Miyahara in competition. After winning her third Japanese title in December, she was sidelined for the rest of the season with a stress fracture to her left hip. But before that, she treated us to one of her greatest performances at the Grand Prix Final, where she grabbed a personal best free skate score.
Her free skate was to a medley of movements from Holst's The Planets, plus a quick detour to the Star Wars soundtrack. It was a vehicle that suited her well and highlighted her strengths in movement and her often underrated power across the ice.
And though her season was curtailed, she still delivered this program to its fullest - both here and at the very start of the season at Japan Open. Let's hope Miyahara comes back strongly from her hip injury in time for the Olympic season.
