37. Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev RUS
2017 Europeans short dance
It's been a comeback season of sorts for the six-time Russian champions. Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev had to deal with her temporary suspension during the whole meldonium episode with the World Anti-Doping Agency last year, which resulted in them missing the 2016 World Championships.
They came back from that suspension, which was subsequently lifted during the off-season, stronger and more determined than ever. This short dance is their best work yet. It showed them both off in expression and music interpretation, and the overall construction of the program allowed them to really bring out a crispness in their skating that we don't always see.
Their performance of this short dance at Europeans was their strongest all season, and amidst the crazy scoring situation, they ended up winning that segment of the competition over both Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte and Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron. If you're a non-believer, give it a chance. This is a different side of Bobrova/Soloviev that we haven't seen before.
