Two years in a row, Mikahil Kolyada came into Worlds looking inconsistent and possibly like he wouldn't even make it into the top 10. And two years in a row, he surprises with an effortless short program that set him up for a strong showing.
More than his free skates, this short program, which Kolyada has used for the past two seasons, is a testament to his potential as an artist and a performer. You can really see the difference between the audience reactions to this program in comparison to his other programs. And the jumps don't hurt either - he has one of the finest triple lutzes in the history. Maybe next year, we will finally see him land that quad lutz in competition.
This tango program has become the program he's known for in his young career so far, and it's very likely that we will see a different short from him in the Olympic season. So enjoy it!
